Instillr values your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how we handle your information when you use our mobile application.
1. Storage
All photos and related data captured in Instillr are stored exclusively on your device. We do not upload or transfer your albums or photos to external servers without your knowledge, except when you explicitly choose to export them through the backup process. You remain in full control of your media.
2. Accounts
Instillr does not currently require or support user accounts. We do not collect personal identifiers such as your name, email address, or phone number.
Subscriptions and Purchases
Premium features and services are available through in-app subscriptions, which are managed by Apple App Store, Google Play, and RevenueCat.
RevenueCat processes purchase information and provides us with anonymized identifiers so we can determine your subscription status.
RevenueCat may process anonymous identifiers (such as app-specific user IDs, purchase receipts, or device information) to validate subscriptions.
RevenueCat does not share personally identifiable information with us.
We do not create or manage user accounts ourselves.
Payment information is handled entirely by the app store you use and is never stored by Instillr.

3. Permissions Used
To deliver its core features, Instillr requests the following device permissions:
- Camera – To take photos
- Storage – To save and import photos to your device’s gallery (includes reading and writing media images, and legacy storage access for older Android versions)
- Internet – Used for crash reporting (Sentry, Firebase Crashlytics), analytics (PostHog, Firebase Analytics), and feedback submission
- Network State – To check if your device is connected to the internet
- Vibration – To provide haptic feedback for certain actions
- Receive Boot Completed – To enable scheduled notifications or reminders after your device restarts
- Foreground Service & Wake Lock – To ensure reminders and notifications are delivered reliably, even when the app is running in the background
- Post Notifications – To send you reminders and notifications
- Exact Alarm – To schedule daily photo reminders and auto deletion of binned photos
Additionally, the app can process text and open web links via system features, but does not request access to your personal data for these actions. These permissions are used strictly for functionality within the app.

When you submit feedback through our app:

5. Analytics and Crash Reporting
Instillr uses a combination of third-party tools to monitor app stability, diagnose issues, and understand how features are used. During ongoing improvements, multiple providers may be used in parallel to evaluate performance and reliability.
We do not use these tools to track personal identity, and we do not associate analytics data with identifiable users.
These tools operate using anonymized or pseudonymous data and do not collect personally identifiable information or user-generated content such as photos or albums.
Error Monitoring
We use tools including Sentry and Firebase Crashlytics to detect and diagnose crashes and performance issues.
These services may collect:
- Device model and operating system version
- App version and build number
- Stack traces and error logs at the time of a crash
- General diagnostic and performance data
This information is used solely to identify bugs and improve app stability.

Product Analytics
We use analytics tools including PostHog and Firebase Analytics to understand how users interact with the app.
These services may collect:
- App usage events (e.g. feature interactions, screen views)
- Device type and operating system version
- App version

This data is aggregated and pseudonymous, and is used to improve app functionality and user experience.
We do not track or collect user-generated content such as photos, albums, or text input.

We use Firebase Remote Config to manage app features and settings without requiring updates. This service does not collect personal data.

6. Third-Party Libraries
Instillr uses third-party and open-source libraries for app functionality. While we do not intentionally include libraries that collect personal data, we recommend reviewing permissions during installation.
7. Your Choices
You can manage or revoke app permissions through your device settings. Deleting the app will remove all locally stored data unless you have manually backed it up.
8. Children’s Privacy
Instillr is not intended for children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If we learn that a child under 13 has provided personal information without parental consent, we will delete it. Please contact us if you believe this has occurred.
9. Changes to this Privacy Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted in the app and the “Last updated” date will be revised. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
